NSCC Riders at National Road Championships in Ballarat
Our club - with a proud racing tradition - wishes our representatives at this week's National Road Championships in Ballarat, all the very best.
This year we have no fewer than 5 riders in the road disciplines of Criterium and Road Race - all in the men's U23 category - showing that the club's future is bright with all these riders at the National pinnacle of racing.
This year's field (in alpha order) is:
Harrison Bailey (GPM Stultz)
- criterium and road race
Congratulations to Michael Potter and Tom Green
Two of NSCC's NRS stars - Michael Potter and Tom Green - have had their stunning 2017 seasons recognised by being selected in two elite racing teams for 2018.
Michael - who capped the year with the NSW U23 road title - has been selected in the new Australian Cycling Academy, based in Queensland. The Academy founders - Matt Wilson from Orica GreenEdge and Ben Kerstyn - have picked the cream of Australia's younger NRS stars to develop into our next crop of World Tour riders.
L'Étape Australia 2017 race report
On December 1st, a group of 14 intrepid NSCC riders headed down to Jindabyne to compete in the second L’Etape Australia event. Forecasts of horrendous weather were no deterrent, even though these forecasts had already caused the cancellation of the Tour of Bright. Concerns about high winds and flooding did, however, force the L’Etape organisers to shorten the course down from the original 157km to 102km – avoiding the final big climb up to Perisher.
Calling All Club Racing Members - Annual Club Championships on Sunday 17th December
Call to action for all club members - Sunday 17th December is the annual club championships at Beauie.
This is your chance to claim the ultimate prize in bike racing - the title of NSCC club champion.
What's at stake here is the opportunity to race against your mates, your training partners, and that annoying person who half-wheels you on bunch rides.
Rob Hodgson 2017 Memorial Ride Race Report
A massive field assembled to contest the annual Robert Hodgson Memorial Race at Beauie last Sunday. Each year this event gets bigger and for 2017 we had 3 men's grades and a women's scratch grade - a departure from the women's handicap events of recent years.
The weather was perfect and it was a fitting setting to honour the life of one of NSCC's finest - Rob Hodgson. The Platinum field was a who's who of Sydney's elite riders and the women's field was also the cream of Sydney's female racing.

Judgement Day - NSCC Race Report
Race Report Courtesy of Ant Ryan - C Grade Winner
It was an early start for a few NSCC riders to make it out to Eastern Creek for a 7am start for the Judgement Day Race hosted by North Western Sydney Cycling Club. We were all nervous in the immediate lead up to the race as we had not had rain for something like 76 days and then the day before the race – rain. Fortunately it was a brisk, clear day that greeted us after a quick trip on the M2/M7.
Remembering Anna Marotta - Wife of Jake Kauffmann
On behalf of the committee and members of NSCC, we wish to offer our sincere condolences to Jake Kauffmann - dear friend of NSCC - on the passing of his wife Anna Marotta.
No words can give Jake comfort, but on behalf of our cycling community we share in Jake's sorrow for this terribly sad time, and wish him strength and courage as he deals with his grief.
Vale Anna

The cloudy skies and damp track didn't deter the large field that turned up for Beauie on a mild spring morning. The threat of rain was just that, until the latter part of the racing and it cooled us down nicely after some hard fast racing.
