The rain gods were smiling on NSCC yesterday as the rain cleared in time for us to hold another hugely successful Beauie Worlds - Sydney's Premier Criterium Race.

The prospect of rain didn't deter a big crowd and all grades had good strong fields which led to exciting racing. Most of Sydney's clubs were represented and it was great to see all flying their clubs' colours.

A grade was a hotly contested affair with many attacks off the front, trying to get that elusive sticky break. With a few laps to go, a 3 man break finally stayed away and put real distance between themselves and the bunch. On the last top turn with a lap to go Jeff Nakajima - who, like Tai Huynh was backing up after racing Oakville on Saturday - launched a counter move to try and bridge across. However the rabbits had gone and the break of Tai, Chris Taylor from Manly and Daniel van der Laan from SUVelo skipped away to claim the spoils.

B grade looked like a repeat of previous weeks with early breaks reeled in, until a 2-man break became 4 around lap five and that was it folks. Chris Teede and Frank Pilling from NSCC were working hard in the break and the bunch couldn't get its act together to reel them in, despite lots of urging from Carm Gallo from Manly.

C grade also had a large strong field with many emerging juniors showing themselves and mixing it up with the older more experienced riders. Northern Academy junior program DS Helmut Vietsch must take great pleasure seeing many promising academy members coming through and taking podium places.

D grade also was a junior-fest with the podium dominated by youngsters out there to show what they've learned. Matt Vassilief had been knocking on the door with several D grade podium finishes in recent races, but this time he finished the job with a first.

Thanks to all competitors for a great day - a small crash due to touch of wheels in C grade involving two riders was the only unfortunate occurrence. The on-duty St John's First Aid team were on hand quickly and we trust that both riders escaped serious injury.
