BikeBug Beauie Worlds turns out again in style for race day 2

A handicap was the format for Round 2 of Bike Bug Beauie Worlds and turned out to be cracking day's racing.

And this nice thing about a handicap is that anyone can win on the day. Round 2 was no exception with D-grade riders hanging on until the final 100 metres to win the top 3 places, all going to NSCC riders.

A great turn-out of 73 riders sign-on meant that the pace was going to be fast. A-grade averaged almost 45 kph and is thought to be the fastest race ever!

The results are ... Overall first was 13 year old Sam Welch, followed by two slightly older riders with Stephen Warr in second place, and Kim Austen in third place, showing that NSCC women's racing is on the comeback!

The top places in the other grades were also paid, with C-grade going to Chris Yeomans (NSCC), B-grade to Ran Virdi (NSCC) and A-grade to Declan Baker (LACC).

This is a fantastic result for Sam, and his parents were certainly proud. Sam is a trainee of the Northern Sydney Academy under the coaching of Helmut Vetisch. In total, there were 12 juniors racing across the 4 grades.

A big thank you to Mark Craig (Commissaire), Andrew Mattisson and Neil Aldridge for traffic control, and Daniel Moit for course set-up. We could not run Beauie Worlds without the valuable assistance of the volunteers that give up a day of racing to make this happen.

It was pleasing to see so many other clubs represented again at Beauie Worlds, and a special thanks to LACC Celebrations team for coming up and mixing it with NSCC A-grade.

For the BikeBug Beauie points series, the front runners after round 2 are:
A-grade - Matthew Garnon 20pts, Jeff Nakajima 15pts
B-grade - Ran Virdi 20pts, Jeff Dhu 15pts
C-grade - Daniel Newman 15pts, Chris Yeomans 15pts
D-grade - Stephen Warr 20pts, Samuel Welch 15pts, Kim Austen 15pts

There are also plenty of riders on 10pts snapping at their heals.

The good news is that we are getting a strong participation of NSCC riders in each grade, especially C-grade and D-grade. Would still like to see more NSCC riders signing on A and B grades for the next 10 races of the series.

The full list of points results for each grade will be on the website soon.

One thing is for sure - the news is out there - even Justin "Maddog" Morris flew in from Chicago to attend Beauie Worlds!
