It is with great regret that the club advises of the passing of Robert Hodgson. Rob will always be remembered as one of our great riders. Few riders of Rob's ability and humility come around and when they do they seem destined and deserving of great things.

When it came to time trials, Rob started as the King of Calga and went on to become a top finisher at time trials at the Australian road championships. When it came to road racing he achieved great success in the 2007 Goulburn to Camden race winning division 2. Rob had panache as a cyclist. In 2008 he got into a break that got top professionals worried at the Australian road race titles. Rob was never a rider who boasted about his success. He turned professional with little fanfare - pro cycling was no doubt a dream of his; however, he never really got an opportunity to show his true capabilities before illness took hold.

His parents Ross and Alison were always big supporters of Rob and his cycling. It was not unusual to see Rob at opens with his family. Ross is a life member of NSCC and Rob was heading in that direction. The clubs thoughts are with his family at this time.

It seems so awful that the great guys so often get cut down at their prime. If there is anything we can learn from this deeply sad story is to make the most of every day and ride tall like Rob.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 10:30am at St Thomas' Church, McLaren St North Sydney.
